Introduction
Recognized as one of the leading curators of her generation, Alemani is renowned for organizing major international exhibitions, including the 59th Venice Biennale, The Milk of Dreams (2022) and the 12th SITE Santa Fe International (2025). Her exhibitions are distinguished by their thoughtful engagement with contemporary artistic practices and the social, political, and cultural questions of our time.
In this lecture, Alemani will reflect on her curatorial practice through projects such as the Venice Biennale and SITE Santa Fe International, alongside her observations on the role and relevance of the Taipei Biennial. Rather than introducing the curatorial concept of the upcoming Taipei Biennial, she will focus on the methodologies behind her work, discussing how exhibitions evolve from research and dialogue with artists to become platforms for new perspectives and public engagement, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes on how exhibitions of this scale are born.
The lecture offers a valuable opportunity for artists, curators, students, and audiences interested in contemporary art to gain first-hand insight into the ideas and processes behind one of today's most influential international curatorial practices.

About the moderator
Li-Chen Loh is the director of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Prior to this, she was the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei. Loh specializes in new media art and has been exhibiting in several prestigious art spaces and events in Taiwan, including VT Artsalon and Frees Art Space of the Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan Artist Festival. She has also curated the 12th and 14th Taipei Digital Arts Festivals in 2017 and 2019, and was the director of Taiwan Contemporary Art Archive project. Loh currently teaches at National Taiwan University. She has a PhD of Institute of Applied Art, National Chiao Tung University.
She was part of the research team for the “Research Project on the Operation and Transfer of the 2nd Museum” in 2000, which was the preliminary study for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei. Ms. Loh has served as CEO of Taipei Digital Art Center (DAC), Committee Member for the National Cultural Congress Advisory Committee, Chairperson of Info Date Taiwan, and Advisor of the Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan (AVAT). She has engaged in public services with an emphasis on issues regarding artists’ rights, art as intervention in social issues, arts and culture, fostering emerging artists and curators, etc. She is also the co-founder of the Taiwan Contemporary Art Archive (TCAA).
About the speaker
Cecilia Alemani is an Italian curator based in New York. Since 2011, she has served as the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Director & Chief Curator of High Line Art, where she oversees and commissions ambitious public art projects. Alongside her institutional leadership at the High Line, she maintains an expansive international practice dedicated to realizing large-scale exhibitions and biennials.
From 2020 to 2022, she served as the Artistic Director of the 59th Venice Biennale, where her acclaimed exhibition, The Milk of Dreams, welcomed over 800,000 visitors. Her other recent and upcoming projects include curating Once Within A Time, the 12th SITE Santa Fe International (2025), alongside the upcoming (fall 2026) inaugural exhibition at the new art center LARGE in Paris and a major retrospective of Costantino Nivola at the Triennale di Milano—further extending her work within public spaces and unconventional landscapes.
