TFAM Net.Open, launched in 2024, focuses on the convergence of digital technology and art. In 2025, the project invited artist Chia-Wei Hsu to collaborate with teams specializing in underwater archaeology, underwater acoustics, and virtual reality to present The Sound of Sinking, a multi-user, walkable VR performance. This seminar features Dr. Yung-Sheng (Linus) Chiu, an expert in underwater acoustics and the Director of the Institute of Undersea Technology at National Sun Yat-sen University, and Dr. Ellen Hsieh, a scholar in underwater archaeology and the Deputy Director of the Research Center for Underwater Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Research at National Tsing Hua University Together, they will offer in-depth insights into underwater surveying, sonar technology, and the practicalities of underwater archaeology. The discussion will also explore how the exhibition translates underwater ruins and historical memory through the lens of technology and art, opening up a cross-disciplinary dialogue and new possibilities for knowledge exchange.

Dr. Ellen Hsieh
Dr. Ellen Hsieh is the Deputy Director of the Research Center for Underwater Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Research and Associate Professor at the Institute of Anthropology at National Tsing Hua University. Her main research areas include maritime archaeology, historical archaeology, and colonial archaeology. Since 2022, she has served as co-principal investigator for the Ministry of Culture's Bureau of Cultural Heritage project " Management of Listed Underwater Cultural Heritage." She also serves as a committee member for the Ministry of Culture's Panel for Underwater Cultural Heritage.
Dr. Linus Y.S. Chiu
Dr. Linus Y.S. Chiu is Distinguished Professor and Director of the Institute of Undersea Technology at National Sun Yat-sen University, and jointly appointed in the Department of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering. He also serves as Secretary-General of the Oceanographic Society of the Republic of China. Since joining NSYSU in 2001, his research has focused on SONAR systems, ocean acoustics, seabed acoustics, and underwater communications. He has led multiple major Taiwan–U.S. collaborative acoustic projects and has extensive experience in field measurements and system integration.
