Diagram of Commotion and Desire-Towards a Bright Start From the Deep Forest:Kuo Wei-Kuo

The Liao Chi-Chun Oil Painting Award, a scholarship offered by Taipei Culture Foundation commemorating a senior Taiwanese artist Liao Chi-chun, is set up to praise and honor excellent art workers. Kuo Wei-Kuo, the winner of the Fifth Liao Chi-Chun Oil Painting Award in 2005, who stood out of the 29 contenders and was rewarded by the judges. His repeated themes of self-portraits presenting with the techniques of metaphor, equivocation, bantering and the strange gray-purple hues, are a dramatic form of surrealism.
This exhibition continues his styles in the representation of Diagram of Commotion and Desire in 1998. The figure of his paintings often reflects his personality; a man who has problems to be himself in reality standing in front of the background of photo-studio and holding the properties photographer prepared for him, reminiscing the past of his life and re-discovering his inner world. By means of the series of creations of Diagram of Commotion and Desire, Kuo explored his gloomy illusionary side and uninhibitedly expressed his inner world. He regarded the period as“the deep forest”, and deeply yearned for the brightness. In 2005, he finished the paintings of “Goodbye to Commotion and Desire”and embraced the coming of bright new start.
“Diagram of Commotion and Desire-Towards a Bright Start From the Deep Forest”, Kuo Wei-Kuo’s outstanding forth play at Diagram of Commotion and Desire Theater, provides the viewers and the artists with gratification of their instant eye contact.
