Painting and Architecture of Chen Chi-Kwan

This exhibition hopes to explore the possibilities of a mutual correspondence between painting and architecture, and furthermore analyzing the interrelatedness of these two major categories of art in order to elucidate the comprehensive nature of Chen Chi-kwan's artistic creations. In the past, neither the solo exhibitions nor retrospective of Chen Chi-kwan have touched upon Chen’s identity as an architect. Even though a large number of reviews and critics have consistently emphasized that Chen Chi-kwan's paintings’ fresh design perspectives and sense of balance, both overall and in terms of minute details, are closely related to his training as an architect. Another aim of this exhibition is that it undertakes a “complete retrospective” of his paintings, seeking out some of the very best examples from Chen Chi-kwan's previous exhibitions, re-examining the history of Chen Chi-kwan's art from the early 1950s up to 2003, and clearly delineating the stylistic transformations that have occurred over time.
