2025 WDH House Theatre "Moon Landing: Scent and Sound Project"

2025 Wang Da-Hong House Theatre

Moon Landing: Scent and Sound Project

This project combines architectural space, guided sound, and scent installations. Inspired by architect Wang Da-Hong’s residence and his unbuilt work Monument to the Moon Landing, it invites visitors—amid the uncertainty of 2025’s final season—to embark on a healing journey from the physical world toward a spiritual utopia through immersive sound and scent.

In 1969, humanity landed on the moon for the first time. This was not only a technological milestone but also a shift in perspective: as astronauts looked back at Earth, borders and politics seemed to dissolve, leaving only the shared identity of being “Earthlings.” This transcendent gaze echoes the spiritual world Wang Da-Hong created within his home—a sanctuary of ideals where, in times of turmoil, constraint, and division, one can retreat inward and steadfastly nurture one’s personal vision of harmony.

Exhibition Features

Scent Installation — Recreates the lunar surface with a special olfactory design, exploring 18 scent elements representing Wang Da-Hong’s and his residence.

Co-creation Installation — Paying tribute to Wang’s signature nine-square-grid design, this interactive piece invites visitors to collaboratively compose a time-limited Moon Landing scent.

Sound Guidance — Leads participants on a journey through Wang Da-Hong’s life, the landscape of Taiwan’s modern era, and the Apollo missions, weaving together the personal and collective, the micro and the cosmic.

Within this quiet and expansive cosmic perspective, visitors are invited to experience a moment of clarity and stillness. To the Moon is not merely a departure from Earth—it is, more profoundly, a landing within.
