The city is like an imprisoned forest where we abide by the given rules and frameworks. While occupied for a living, we take things for granted as time passes. In an era of rapid development of technology, how long have we not stopped to appreciate the beauty and tranquility in our lives?

The interdisciplinary arts collective Office One Senses (OOS) designed the installation Analogue Forest with modern media to construct a dream-like and poetic artificial forest in the city. Its existence tells an allegorical story about nature and the city. Walking through it, one feels the pulse and tranquil power of the forest, and the forest  is no longer just as it is, but a piece of pure land.

“Time Whispers Deep in the Green Shade” comprises 4 dances: ‘Heart Deep of the Forest’, ‘Crowd’, ‘Hometown’, and ‘Forest Carnival”.  The choreographer Yuan-Li Wang will lead fifth-grade students from the Department of Dance of the National Taipei University of the Arts to perform the opening piece ‘Heart Deep of the Forest’. Three other works selected by Chiou-O Chiang, the artistic director of 2025 Focus Dance Company, present three emerging young choreographers and are to be performed by all members of the Focus Dance Company.

The hustle and bustle of the city shuttle through this modern metropolis. Faced with the crowd of strangers passing by, we seemingly linger in a silent dialogue. Like water under the bridge, the whispers of one’s feelings convey the sense of being out of place within the forest and city.

‘Crowd’

Being out of place, one constantly has to try to be in tune with society. After all, humans are social animals. We do not thrive in isolation.  Just as urban and forest can coexist, we can live both in the city and in the tranquility that nature brings.

‘Hometown’

From alienation to integration, we are constantly traveling and pursuing in the city, It is a journey, as well as a passage both tortuous and romantic. If there’s no alternative but to fit in, a pure land one belongs to is the comfort in life.

‘Forest Carnival’

“How long has it been since the last inner talk with yourself?” We have been tamed by the urban jungle made of cement for a long time. Here in this forest, with a wisp of fragrance and a piece of green grass, let’s for once leave everything behind, unleash our passion, and dance wildly.
