2024 X-site Artist Talk Artist's Talk

Program X-site has been based on the outdoor plaza as its stage since 2014. Characterized by contemporaneity, experimentality, and publicness, the event encourages cross-disciplinary projects that integrate various types of art and issue-oriented research. “X” implies the unknown and “X-site” signifies “exciting site” when pronounced. The event is undoubtedly an anticipated and stimulating summer feast for both creators and participants. Analogue Forest conceived by the interdisciplinary team Office One Senses (OOS) distinguished itself as the 11th laureate in 2024.

Analogue Forest is an interactive installation that reflects the relationship of external forces between humans and nature. A gigantic, yet weightless coverage spreads over 25 tree-like columns, slightly swaying from time to time, to bring forth a shade. With a mise-en-scène of orderly simplicity, the work defines a non-lieu in the cityscape mixing with artificial and natural scenes. The visioned “forest” constructed in analogy to nature will draw pedestrians into the structure to liberate themselves from the time and space dominated by daily life. Throughout the exhibition, the public program will gradually uncover and trigger the heterogeneity of space and multiplicity of body perceptions.

In the talk, the team members will share their conceptual development and practical process of Analogue Forest. From different perspectives, we look forward to discussing the experimentality and re-imagination of Program X-site, and the public communication of spatial installations.
