Modern and Not Modern: From the Post-war Period to the 1980s Forum

In 2022, the Museum undertook a research project on Taiwanese architecture from the post-war period to the 1980s in collaboration with the editorial board of Journal of Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Professor Wang Chun-Hsiung, chairman of the Department of Architecture at Shih Chien University. Findings from the project were subsequently published in the Journal of Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Modern Art magazine. In the early stages of planning the project, representatives of the architectural profession and scholars were invited to draw on the research energy of the architectural world and provide focus for the developmental context, trends, and contemporary stages of this historical topic. Furthermore, the theme of “Modern and Not Modern” was divided into the four subtopics “Discourse and Representation, ” “Construction Technology, ” “Experimental Movement,” and “Place as Context” in order to organize this rich, complex, and difficult to understand history.
