Pilot Program 2011

Museum’s document preservation and reuse

Established in 1983, Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) was the first modern art museum in Taiwan. It has now been almost 30 years since the museum first opened its doors to the public. Its main directives are chronicling the modern art movement in Taiwan over the past one hundred years, actively engaging in international exchange, and propelling artistic talent up and out into the art world.

With the modern art trend has come an ever-increasing amount of materials on modern and contemporary art. Such materials are constantly being developed, produced and accumulated through the work of curators and the compilation/classification of artwork in the permanent collection. We at TFAM have put much thought into how to preserve, archive and reuse these documents so as to provide a foundation for contemporary art research.

After several months at the drawing board we have finalized a plan for the Archives at Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Apart from the task of compiling and organizing the documents currently on file in the museum, we are now moving toward the construction of an actual documentation center. To this end, from September 5 to 8 we will hold a number of activities – including special-topic lectures and roundtable discussions – on document preservation and reuse.
