“(Art) After Conceptual Art” Lecture Series Lecture

Do you want to know the story of how a urinal became art? Did you know your home can become an art museum? Everyone can be an artist – would you like to be one? These secrets are revealed in the lecture series “(Art) After Conceptual Art”...

“(Art) After Conceptual Art” explores the major trends and forms of expression in avant-garde art since the 1960s. By examining the processes of specific contemporary art phenomena, the lecture series provides an organized introduction to the conceptual idioms arising from the recent rapid developments in contemporary art, serving as a reference and aid for viewers to appreciate contemporary art.

In the current age of the Global Village with the omnipresence of media, the ways we communicates and lives are rapidly changing. All around the world, social, political and economic relationships are increasingly complex and obscure; consequently, modes of artistic expression are also being increasingly altered. What is now called art differs from that of the past, and is developing along a completely different trajectory: The laboratory where alchemists magically transform junk into art appears on the surface to be filled with commonplace “things,” but behind them may lie surprising secrete stories. And you may very likely be a star of tomorrow, raising a storm in the art world. In such a state where anything is possible, objects, images and text document the ceaseless evolution of the meaning of art and life, and viewers often become part of artworks, challenging the preconceived definitions, logic and methods of art and art making. Modes of articulation and cross-disciplinary action continue to expand, pushing at the boundaries of the avant-garde. In recent years curating has grown in prestige, with many young students flocking to this profession. As curatorial methodologies have been developed and extrapolated over the course of decades, curating has become critical in art, influencing how art history is being written and advanced.

Do you feel curious about the forms that art is taking in the new century? This lecture series provides an excellent opportunity to open your artistic eyes. We sincerely invite you to join us in these festivals of art, beginning in August.

The lecture series are conducted in Chinese.
