TFAM Nights: Saturday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30

Admission is free every Saturday evening, which includes our special performing arts and creativity lectures!!!

About TFAM Nights

Under the banner of its program TFAM Nights, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum has opened all its galleries to the public for 11 hours every Saturday from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm for seven consecutive years. In 2010, the program expanded to include multidisciplinary events scheduled in the evening to further enhance the museum's nighttime charm, making TFAM Nights one of the few nighttime events at a public museum in Taiwan. Primarily performances and lectures, these events have added an entertaining and theatrical atmosphere to the program's educational aims. The museum encourages everyone to take the opportunity to experience the beauty of the museum at night first hand. We recommend arriving between four and five in the afternoon to first enjoy the famous TFAM sunset at the adjacent parks or museum lobby, and then stroll through the museum exhibits. TFAM Nights is made possible with support from Credit Suisse AG.

Corporate Sponsorship
Generous support by CREDIT SUISSE AG over the last seven years has made many new programs possible.

Drama & Dance @ TFAM
This series of environmental theater events scheduled monthly from March through October puts the spotlight on the museum as a theatrical venue, and includes theater, dance, music and film.
The museum architecture itself will provide the context for each performer's artwork, thus reinterpreting the role of architecture in cultural events and creating a different kind of landscape. The public will see theater in a completely new light when performed in the museum's transformed environment

Your Creativity @ TFAM
Each in this series of ten multidisciplinary lectures open to the public consists of a 60 minute talk followed by a ten minute question and answer session. The series title “creativity” suggests the mission of the museum as an art institution, and our desire to prepare Taiwan's cultural creative industries for the global cultural economy. The lectures are designed to create a forum to discuss, exchange and disseminate notions of culture and creativity. Eminent lecturers will share excellent insights and unique life experiences.

She has worked as both a director and scriptwriter, dedicated herself to both writing contemporary plays and their research, and collaborated with traditional opera companies, dance troupes and visual artists. As the value of artworks continues to climb, museum security has become more important. What are the requirements for a security checkpoint in a museum? Must this also be artistic? Is it possible to joke about the museum? Will it be funny? Come to the museum on May 19th to find out the truth.”

生祥樂隊Sheng-xiang Musical Group /《南方歌Contemporary Southern Songs》

6月16日

During his days with the politically active Jiaogong Band, Lin Sheng-xiang started to think very seriously about the sociocultural significance of music. In 2004 Lin's new band Sheng Xiang and Water 3 astonished European audiences and hoisted Lin onto the world music stage. In his 2006 compilation entitled Planting Trees, Lin sought to generate dialog about Taiwan's political stalemate, telling stories of organic farming and the planting of trees. The following year in protest to the ethically-based award categories set by the Golden Melody Awards, Lin declined two awards, and also publicly supported farmer-activist Yang Rumen, also known as the rice bomber. More recently, Lin cooperated with poet-lyricist Zhong Yong-feng of Kaohsiung's Meinong District. For TFAM Nights Lin will be performing a selection of his songs from over the years. This much anticipated event will be the first time a recorded performance by Sheng-xiang Musical Group will be open to the public.

馬世芳 (Ma Shih- fan)/ 《當代創作歌謠的社會意識:從林生祥與「黑手那卡西」談起Contemporary Creative Songs in Musical:Encompasses Lin Shin-xiang & Black Hand Nakasi’s Worker Band》

0707

Both the Lin Sheng-xiang led Jiaogong Band and Black Hand Nakasi Workers' Band grew up in the tumultuous post-martial law Taiwanese climate of the 1990s. Choosing songs as their weapons and music as their mode of social intervention to speak for the weak and helpless in society, each band left an indelible mark on the era. With respect to the aesthetics of music, both bands possess a high level of awareness and clear goals in the practice of both forms and techniques. The journey taken by these musicians over the past twenty years provides us with a precious map to social and cultural changes in Taiwan.

黑手那卡西 Black Hand Nakasi Workers’ Band / 《星空下•說故事:黑手那卡西民謠演出The Starry, Story Night: Black Hand Nakasi-Workers’ Band Folk Concert 》

0721

Started in 1996 and composed of laborers and union organizers, the Black Hand Nakasi Workers' Band participates in a social movement with music. Their form of activism derives from the direct  participation of laborers in the creation and performance of music, which is unprecedented in both mainstream and non-mainstream musical forms. For The Starry, Story Night: Black Hand Nakasi-Workers’ Band Folk Concert the band will use music to tell stories of marginalization and hardship, and attempt to press closer to Taiwanese society and the experiences of Taiwanese people with their music. This emotionally charged performance is sure to transport the audience away from their daily preoccupations and release a little stored up energy.
(Venue: TFAM Public Square outside the Main Entrance)

2012/07/28 ∣Cinema@TFAM:《流浪神狗人God Man Dog 》

The film concerns the intertwining stories of three groups of people who meet due to a traffic accident on a section of Taiwan's Suhua Highway—an unforeseen blow that serves as a turning point in all of their lives. Everyone in Taiwan, from the middle classes down to the homeless, must constantly be on the move in order to get by which creates spiritual instability. God Man Dog presents an image of constant movement that starts externally and gradually infects the soul, and reminds us that we all are lost yet continue to struggle.

塗翔文(Steven Tu)/《台灣電影回春--喜悅或是隱憂?The Rebirth of Taiwanese Cinema—Is This Good Or Bad》

0804

The unprecedented box office smash Cape No. 7 energized the Taiwanese movie industry, prompting cutting edge directors to create a series of films including Monga, Night Market Hero, You Are the Apple of My Eye and Din Tao: Leader of the Parade. Did the success of these movies at the box office divert international attention away from Taiwanese directors with established artistic styles? Do these films constitute a new trend? Moreover, what direction should the Taiwanese movie industry take to insure its sustainable future? TFAM Nights and Steven Tu hope to answer these questions and others with the screening of three movies and various examples of Taiwanese films.
(Venue: B2 Auditorium)

2012/08/11 ∣Cinema@TFAM:《第四張畫The Forth Portrait》

This film portrays the story of a ten-year-old boy whose parents are separated, has no one to rely upon, and faces family violence. Lifted from life's vicissitudes, the story is presented as an allegory of troubled youth and social welfare systems. The plot is driven by four drawings which narrate a fictional story revealing the theatricality of real life.
(Venue: B2 Auditorium)

2012/08/18 ∣Cinema@TFAM:《被遺忘的時光The Long Good Bye》

This film tells a story of what has been forgotten, documenting the misplaced emotions and reconstituted memories of a group of elderly people lost in the flow of time. When shown yellowing photographs of people they once knew, they struggle to remember against advancing dementia with the help of caring, attentive family members. This excellent film is especially recommended for those with elderly family members.

Autumn: Sense of The City

How does a livable city stand out from a vibrant crowd of competitive capitals?
How do we flaunt the charm of our own city? What is our concept of our own city?
Taipei is aiming to be a creative city, and has set its sights on becoming the World Design Capital in 2016.
Let’s visit cities where creativity flourished in the twentieth century, such as Tokyo, New York and London, and take in their unique, local flavor, and then take another stroll through those old houses in Tainan.

Yu Feng / 《東京找答案:進化之都的創意與幽默Tokyo’s Creative Evolution》

Tokyo has long been considered a leader in urban renewal and modernization. Japan's highly competitive society has driven the city forward, blending uniqueness and perfectionism into its urban infrastructure. Citing numerous examples in his lecture, Yu Feng shares the vision and humor of Japanese designers, and includes new design practices that transform challenges to urban industries, lifestyles, consumption and the city government into victories.

Voco Novo /《當代阿卡貝拉:人聲與時空的對話Living Space~A-cappella》

0922

Formed in 2009, the quintet Voco Novo chose their name to suggest the idea “new voices.” The group reinterprets folk, jazz, and popular music, as well as classical Chinese poetry in graceful a cappella, a medieval musical form which includes Gregorian Chant and was sung without instrumental accompaniment in cathedrals to praise god. The quintet has established their own a cappella style, and sings primarily in Chinese, thus adding another dimension to this musical form that relies on the most fundamental of musical instruments—the human voice.

C.W Yu /《台南‧老房子裡的時光旅行Time Traveling Through Tainan’s Old House》

1006

Having been shaped by the promotion of touring and old home restoration, the lecturer’s thoughts do not merely advance forward in time, but are also firmly entrenched in mining the past. Restored structures such as those found in Tainan and Treasure Hill in Taipei, and tourist spots such as the Meinong District in Kaohsiung and Fongbin in Hualien, all await tourists wanting to re-imagine their lives. In learning how to appreciate the qualities of old architecture we can better understand where the true beauty of living lies. This lecture guides the audience on a creative journey of urban dreams through old houses located in Taiwan and around the world.

Expert in both dance and theater, choreographer and performer Wei Ching-Ju possesses a rich awareness of the human body. For this piece blending street and contemporary dance styles she teams up with well-known hip hop, street jazz and free style dancer Lin Yu-He and actor and street dancer Pan Wei-Hsun. Performed in the museum's Cabaret Theater, the performance includes DJ Jez Fang and his extemporaneous sound art, and with the help of the participating artists' bodies, brings to life asteroid B-612— the home of the main character in the French children's story Le Petit Prince.

Neil Peng / 《為甚麼紐約被看見? Why is New York Attractive?》

1103

The cultural offerings of New York City draw people from around the world like a magnet. The city has little need for marketing, as most people have a New York travel brochure stored in their heads. But where do people get their impressions of New York City? Why do tourists greedily flock to New York and have such a strong desire to take in its cultural offerings? You may find this shocking, but even government functionaries in New York think like designers, and the city's position as cultural capital of the world has been very deliberately, and solidly constructed, which is exactly what this lecture is about.

Kung Shu-Chan /《日常培力:從創意到創新、從更新到再生、從倫敦到台北Urban Network
Booting:Creativity & Innovation、Renewal & Rebirth、London & Taipei》

1117

What kind of city is Taipei? How do we address traces left behind by history, deal with its multiple hybridity, and then construct a great city out of an ordinary city like Taipei? Pioneering strategies used in recent years by Taipei City have centered on sustaining, revitalizing or creating various conceptions of urban spaces. This lecture explores the meaning of urban vitality from the perspectives of the dual gazes between Taipei and London (host of the 2012 Summer Olympics). Based on the concept of urban network booting, the lecture jump starts different lifestyle possibilities from organic blueprints—a topic everybody can talk about, but finds difficult to fully grasp.
