Started in 1996 and composed of laborers and union organizers, the Black Hand Nakasi Workers' Band participates in a social movement with music. Their form of activism derives from the direct participation of laborers in the creation and performance of music, which is unprecedented in both mainstream and non-mainstream musical forms. For The Starry, Story Night: Black Hand Nakasi-Workers’ Band Folk Concert the band will use music to tell stories of marginalization and hardship, and attempt to press closer to Taiwanese society and the experiences of Taiwanese people with their music. This emotionally charged performance is sure to transport the audience away from their daily preoccupations and release a little stored up energy.
