During his days with the politically active Jiaogong Band, Lin Sheng-xiang started to think very seriously about the sociocultural significance of music. In 2004 Lin's new band Sheng Xiang and Water 3 astonished European audiences and hoisted Lin onto the world music stage. In his 2006 compilation entitled Planting Trees, Lin sought to generate dialog about Taiwan's political stalemate, telling stories of organic farming and the planting of trees. The following year in protest to the ethically-based award categories set by the Golden Melody Awards, Lin declined two awards, and also publicly supported farmer-activist Yang Rumen, also known as the rice bomber. More recently, Lin cooperated with poet-lyricist Zhong Yong-feng of Kaohsiung's Meinong District. For TFAM Nights Lin will be performing a selection of his songs from over the years. This much anticipated event will be the first time a recorded performance by Sheng-xiang Musical Group will be open to the public.
