TOPIC
Architecture is no longer identified with the building, the simulacrum of rules and commerce, but takes a different road, expands to other disciplines, embraces the complexity of the contemporary city, involves wider groups of people and is concerned as much with non-material aspects as material ones.
The final goal is to create a different city, to open a dialogue on what direction to take, to re-imagine a shared public space and reach a sustainable balance with the environment. New tools and methods have been developed to reach these goals. The architect abandons his studio, immerses himself in cities and suburbs, no longer trusts in second-hand information but asks questions, draws maps, seeks alliances, discovers new means of intervening.
The co-curator of the main pavilion of the 11th International Architecture Exhibition – Biennale di Venezia will illustrate how architecture is encouraging the construction of a better future.
