Whispers of Blended Shadows: The Art of Jerry Uelsmann Gallery:3C
Jerry Uelsmann is a master in photography of 20-century surrealism. He uses the method of post –visualization to present a special effect of “post-vision”. Instead of terminating the moment at image-capture, Uelsmann only uses this traditional technique as the start of his work, and layer images on different negatives on top of each other. This innovative technique provides the artistic image of pure Montage. In this method, Uelsmann discovered the secrecy of images – recreation, which reflects the bridging idea in 1960’s western photography from simple pictures to image concept. Images come from real-world rocks, trees, clouds, seas, boats, human bodies, and still objects, and are turned into symbolic and descriptive inspirations to create surprising images. As digitalized as today, this work stresses its enriched gestures in its language, not only for visual pleasure, but also for the unexplainable, impossible-to-existence magical world.
