In modern Taiwanese painting development, the style of J.C. Kuo speaks its own language of eclectic clarity. The cores of his works often express the variation of desire that accompanies the ideal world, and are full of visual tension. In the city of reality, J.C. Kuo uses his sensitive antenna and personality to release emotions, and thus us good at transforming mythologies and legend stories into vivid pictures. What’s worth paying more attention to is the message of identity sent by enhanced linear vocabularies that’s ever changing, even in the labyrinth of trial. J.C. Kuo was born in 1949 in Lugang, Taiwan. He started lessons at Li Chun-Shen’s studio in 1967, and graduated from Fine Arts Department of Chinese Culture University in 1973. His first personal exhibit was as early as during his academic years, and finally made appearance in the Taiwanese art field in the 80’s. His language of style leans more toward the cynicism for famous persons using strong and bold strokes. He dares to challenge the bottom line of totem and taboo, discover the concurrent political issues and cultural phenomenon, and further develops his own unique point of debate. This exhibition displays about 137 paintings and sets that represent his years of composition starting from the 90’s until now. It, as a whole, gives an ambience like the ancient poems.
