Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) offers graduate students at higher education institutions in Taiwan and overseas the opportunity to undertake internships and research projects at our museum. The objective of this program is to cultivate talent in art research and art management, to assist academic institutions in training museum research personnel, and to promote exchanges with scholarly organizations. We welcome qualified students at higher education institutions, either in Taiwan or overseas, to submit an application for internship prior to April 30 each year.

Guidelines for the Taipei Fine Arts Museum Internship Program

I. Purpose

To cultivate talent in fine art research and art management, to assist higher education institutions in Taiwan and overseas in preparing museum research personnel, and to promote exchanges between TFAM and academic organizations.

II. Eligible Internship Candidates

Any graduate student currently matriculated in a graduate program related to fine art at a university either in Taiwan or overseas, who has a special need for or interest in training in modern art research, museum studies, or art museum practice, is welcome to apply to the TFAM Education and Public Services Department. (It is recommended that foreign nationals prepare themselves with Chinese-language speaking and writing ability.)

III. Internship Period

1. Applications are accepted from January 1 to April 30 each year.
2. The internship period is from June 1 to September 30 each year. (Internships must not be less than 25 days.)

IV. Items Required for Application (No processing fee. Except where noted, one copy is required. Materials should be either in Chinese or be accompanied by Chinese translation.)

2. Self-introduction. A short essay 500 words or fewer in length. Please include an explanation of your future plans and your reasons for applying for an internship.
3. An internship plan, including research items, time and objectives
4. Proof of academic experience, including commendations
5. Academic transcript(s) (including a list of completed courses related to art)
6. Photocopy of ID card (Foreign nationals must submit a photocopy of their passports.)
7. Photocopy of student ID card
8. Two letters of recommendation (must be sealed)
9. Two 1-inch half-length photos

V. Application Process

1. Complete application form, gather aforementioned materials, and mail to Taipei Fine Arts Museum Education and Public Services Department (No. 181 Zhongshan North Road Sec. 3, Taipei City, Taiwan) before the application deadline of April 30. Please note “Internship Application” on the envelope.
2. Museum staff will inspect the internship application.
3. A review committee composed of the members of each museum department will examine the prospective intern’s research plan.
4. Notification: After the first stage of review, applicants who have qualified will be notified and requested to visit the museum for an interview.
5. Reporting for internship: After their interviews, those applicants who are accepted will be notified and informed of the specified time to report and begin their internships.
6. Internship content: Each intern will be assigned to a department based on their educational experience, specialization and interests. In order to become more fully acquainted with museum affairs, interns are encouraged to attend the museum’s seminars and exhibitions as much as possible.
7. Interns will be provided an Intern ID Card allowing them entrance to the museum. They should carry it on their persons, and return it to the museum at the end of their internship period.

VI. Evaluation

The head of the department to which the intern has been assigned and the intern’s supervisor will evaluate the intern’s performance based on the internship evaluation form, the contents of the internship plan, the internship process, the intern’s work journal, the intern’s research reports, and the internship experience report.

All interns must report to the museum at the specified time. If any intern engages in behavior that compromises their eligibility or damages the reputation of the museum, and the matter is brought to the museum’s attention by museum staff, Taipei Fine Arts Museum reserves the right to dismiss the intern, to revoke the intern’s credentials, and to notify the school in which the intern is enrolled. In such an instance, the intern must return their identification documents, and relevant information will remain on file for future reference.

VII. Conclusion of Internships

Prior to the conclusion of the internship, the intern must turn in an Internship Experience Report (including suggestions for the museum) no fewer than 3,000 characters in length. (Foreign nationals must submit their report in Chinese.)

VIII. Fulfillment of Internships

Upon fulfillment of the internship, TFAM will present a certificate verifying the internship.

IX. Restrictions

Each intern must work no fewer than 32 hours per week, and no fewer than 200 total cumulative work hours. Interns may not arrive late or leave early (standard hours are 9:00-13:00, 13:00-17:00). To take leave, the intern must receive permission from their department head or supervisor. If the intern violates these rules, TFAM will not issue an internship certificate.

If an intern discloses to the public information or documents (including internship reports) obtained during their internship without the express authorization of TFAM, the museum will pursue liability in accordance with the law.

X. Efficacy

These Guidelines, or any amendments thereof, will become effective when approved by the TFAM Museum Affairs Committee.
