Volunteer Service Rule

Service of the Volunteer Group of Taipei Fine Arts Museum– Contents and Regulations

While on duty, volunteers should serve the viewers according to their needs. When the viewer asks a question, the volunteer should first politely introduce himself/herself as a volunteer, and then meekly answer the question. The volunteer should often say the words like ‘please’, ‘sorry’, and ‘thanks’. He/she should be sincere and honest, express his/her thoughts with words like ‘right’, ‘good’, or ‘yes’ and attentively listen to what the viewer has to say, never forgetting to say ‘thanks; and ‘goodbye’ at the end of their conversation in the best service manner.

  • I. Contents of Service
    • (1) Ordinary volunteers
      1. At the entrance: checking and accepting admission tickets and counting the number of admission-free visitors
      2. At the exit: doing souvenir stamping
      3. At the service center: handling deposits for visitors, and lending to visitors audio visiting aids, wheelchairs, and canes
      4. Maintaining good order at the exhibition hall.

    • (2) Volunteer instructors at the ‘Art Experience Corner’
      Explaining to visitors what are being displayed and kept at our Museum and our art experience, as well as art appreciation and creative spaces our Museum has planned. But, the ‘Art Experience Corner’ is different from the conventional art education courses. It provides artistic education spaces for the participation of parents, children, and teachers; allows parents, children, and teachers to learn more about art and cultivate their ability for art appreciation.

    • (3) Volunteer docents:
      ​A volunteer docent must be moderate and objective in speech; no subjective political or religious views of his or her own should be expressed. He/she must set an example for the viewers, never to stride across the forbidding lines in the exhibition hall, also should tell the viewers not to stride across the lines nor get too close to the art works.

    • (4) Library volunteer sub-group
      ​Counter work of the library is the primary duty of volunteer service. A volunteer assists viewers in using audio-visual, photographic, and Xerox machines, as well as in checking out information on computer and in borrowing and returning books.

    • (5) Consulting volunteer sub-group
      ​Answer questions about Museum’s exhibition, activities as well as opinions, complaints from audiences.

II. Service regulations

  1. Be punctual, and accept task adjustments mode by the sub-group leader. Never report to duty late or leave work early.
  2. Annual on-duty hours must not be less than the basic service hours set by the sub-group.
  3. After having been assigned to a certain sub-group,volunteers must not request transfer to another sub-group within 6 months.
  4. If unable to come to work on time,volunteers must ask for leave beforehand.
  5. For service time transfer or for making up service,volunteers must first obtain permission from sub-group leader.
  6. If a volunteer has been absent for three months or has shown undesirable manners at work, the volunteer group may start to process his/her discharge, and cancel or take back his / her volunteer badge.
  7. Performance of a volunteer is subject to assessment once a year. Service period of good volunteers will be extended. On the other hand, practical training volunteer badge will be issued to those whose service is not renewed.
  8. When entering or leaving the Museum, a volunteer must wear volunteer badge to show his / her status. Volunteer Regulation (Please see the Chinese for details)
