Art Library has been settled in the basement of the museum since TFAM’s establishment. The birth of the library serves the need of people with visual art related specialty to conduct academic research. Books, periodicals, video and audio materials as well as electronic resources related to visual art are collected; TFAM’s publications, inclusive of exhibition catalogues, books for special issues, journals, etc. can also be found in the library.
After the renovation in 2008, Art Library reopened in September 2009. The interior is divided by layers which echo with different subjects; the tranquility and clearness give visitors a unique reading experience as if they explored somewhere with peaceful and graceful views. What welcomes the visitors in the entrance is the area displaying the newly-purchased Chinese as well as foreign language books and the books associated with the current exhibitions held by TFAM. In front of the library’s main space is the reading area for Chinese book collection. The open bookshelves with desks and chairs arranged by the both sides of the area make it easy and convenient for visitors to look for books. In the back of it is the reading area for foreign language books and journals. The annular building structure with high ceiling, soft and elegant color and light offer the comfort needed in a personal study; the comfortable sofas and square tables in the area add the warmth and a sense of belonging. This part of the library is also an “audio-visual space”; seminars, art presentations, forums, or activities of teaching and research held by TFAM usually take place here.
