In everyday life, we leave behind many traces. They are the creases on our bedsheets, footprints on the floor, a ball of crumpled paper, or a drop of soy sauce on our clothing while we eat. These tiny traces, just like little records of life, document what we just did.
Traces may appear faint, but they often attract the artist’s eye. Through creation, they transform invisible emotions, ephemeral feelings, or episodes ignored in daily life into something more visible and tangible, and even something to be experienced anew. These traces are the cues of the artist’s quiet dialogue with the world. This exhibition invites three artists — Delphine Pouillé, Hsiao Yu-Chi, and Liu Shu-Yu — to show five artworks and two new commissions for an innovating exhibition experience. Every work responds in a unique way to these questions: What do the things we did and feelings we had leave behind? How can we express and share these?
Entitled “Whispers of Traces”, this exhibition uses storytelling narratives to turn abstract concepts into concrete experiences, close to children’s perception. It inspires the public’s curiosity to explore minute yet meaningful cues, to “listen” to the information hidden behind traces. We welcome you to enter the artists’ creations, and discover their stories and emotions.
Other than admiring the artworks, visitors are also invited to experience firsthand the multiple facets of traces through games and creation. In these interactions, perhaps you will discover that buried memories are quietly becoming your daily records, leaving behind a mark that is yours.
