Silent Letters—Feeling the Units
2025/08/09 - 2025/11/16

While silent letters become an essential element in forming a word, they remain unpronounced.
Quietly attempting to speak through the visual.
In everyday life, tangible objects frame our surroundings— emphasizing precision and purpose, shaped by definition.
In this exhibition, objects and materials are collaged, inviting them to unfold from sections and fragments.
Like flipping through a book creates new angles.
The title page, turned over—the content begins—a pause for breathing and the start of pronunciation.
The gap creates a connection and an invitation to the gateway.
Flipping through the thickness of 165 pages, the 'unit' transforms into a fragment of words.
The movement of flipping aroused the tactile awareness of the thickness.
Touching and overlaying, preserve clarity and vagueness simultaneously.
Viewing the units from multiple perspectives allows them to exist more freely across various subjects.
Objects and materials are eligible for the potential to be sculpted. In this instance, materials offer the possibility for me to fabricate.
Objects, materials, and other mediums expand projection, transforming into an incomplete sentence in this space.
Mining, excavation, saturated solution, word, object, material, draft.
Basic materials encounter processing—leaving traces inevitably.
Cracks, absence narrative, interspersed with ample void.
Words and units attempting to practice their pronunciation.
In this present moment, allowing me to remain leaving a subtle presence without definitive indication.

Artist
Hsu Jui-Chien

Hsu Jui-Chien explores the possibility of materials, objects, and the spirituality that lies hidden within matter. Through his repetitive creative process, he awakens the unnamed consciousness in a direct and intimate manner,—inviting it to enter a vague yet conflicting state, from which his ongoing exploration unfolds. By exerting force on matters, the artist observes the effects and transformations it provokes—offering a way to engage with the real world, forging a deeper connection to the essence of the objects.
Hsu reconnects perception in the body, becoming the instigator of his works. Driven by curiosity, he intertwines objects, creating a space to imagine the idea of a 'unit'. Much like viewing objects as words, they provide various possibilities for composing a sentence. He carefully observes, disassembles, transfers, and reconstructs objects—step by step—using a direct and intimate gesture to reveal the consciousness hidden within matter. It is through the work that the ambiguity and subtlety within are ultimately embodied.
